Description
The Show Labrador Retriever in Great Britain and Northern Ireland 1945-1995 Volume One By Richard Edwards
This 173 page book is the first of two brilliant books which are the definitive history of the show Labrador in Great Britain. To quote Mr Edwards from the book’s introduction:
“About 30 years ago, when I was just starting to attend the Championship shows, the late Mrs Docking (Ballyduff) was kind enough to explain to me the way in which families could be found within the show Labrador pedigrees and how the most consistent kennels nearly always developed their own families… Eventually, it became possible to develop a general classification of bloodlines of the show Labrador.
(1) This book includes an attempt to classify bloodlines of the show Labrador since 1945. (2) This classification is developed by allocating kennels and families to basic structure. (3) A separate section discusses the concept of type and the show Labrador. (4) The two themes, classification and type, are brought together in a description of the various kinds of show Labradors in the past 50 years."
We provide a free index of kennels that are discussed in the book. There are no photos in this treasure trove of information. A must read regardless of where you live and breed Labradors.
Volume Two is sold out but the reprint is at printers now. You may pre-order or check this site for information on when the book will be available.
